Trauma surgery can be life-saving and focuses on treating critical injuries caused by emergencies.

Trauma surgery is often required for:

  • Head and neck injuries

  • Motor vehicle accident injuries
  • Third-degree burns
  • Gunshot wounds
  • Other life-threatening emergencies

Weight Loss Surgery

Gastric sleeve surgery is a surgical weight loss procedure that reduces the size of the stomach. This process results in patients feeling full sooner and may lower the production of hunger-inducing hormones, leading to significant long-term weight loss and health improvement. An obesity medicine specialist provides patients with education, classes and support groups to prepare for the physical, mental and emotional changes that can occur following surgery.

Key facts about gastric sleeve surgery:

  • This minimally invasive surgery is performed through small abdominal incisions
  • The procedure lasts about one hour with a hospital stay of up to two days
  • Patients can lose 50%–60% of excess body weight in the first year

You may be a weight loss surgery candidate if you…

  • have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40
  • have a BMI greater than 35 and have diabetes or high blood pressure
  • are more than 100 pounds over your ideal body weight
  • have struggled to achieve a healthy weight despite medically-supervised dieting.
